Real Solution: Anger Control
|
Chronic anger can be costly, both physically and emotionally. Most people can use their anger in appropriate ways in some situations, and yet be ineffectual in others. Participation in the Real Solution Anger Control Program reduces levels of anger, especially in provocative situations. You will learn effective coping behaviors to stop escalation and to resolve conflicts. Graduated homework assignments allow participants to apply their newly acquired skills. The Real Solution Anger Control Program employs the three major anger control interventions by using model presentations, rehearsal, positive feedback and promoting.
Skills and Cognitive Concepts
- Anger Is a Two-Step Process
- Ventilation Doesn't Work
- Anger Is Different From Aggression
- Coping Is Better Than Blaming
- Relaxation Skills:
- Progressive Muscle Relaxation
- Relaxation Without Tension
- Special Place Visualization
- Breathing-Cued Relaxation
- Cognitive Control Concepts
- ABC Cognitive Theory
- Trigger Thoughts
- Response Choice Rehearsal
- Description of Response Choice Rehearsal (RCR)
- RCR Switching
- Relapse Prevention
Goals:
- To reduce levels of anger in provocative situations
- To learn effective coping behaviors in order to halt escalation and to resolve conflicts
- The goal is not to talk about anger experience, to process anger, to understand psychodynamics of anger, or to ventilate anger
The Real Solution Anger Control Program uses a skill building format and each new skill relies, to some extent, on what has previously been learned, therefore participants are strongly encouraged to attend all 12 sessions. The sessions begin and end on time. You are encouraged to do homework assignments.
Interested persons schedule an initial 45 minute individual appointment to discuss the process and feasibility of their participation. The Real Solution Anger Control Program is most useful for those willing to honestly examine and recognize the consequences of their anger control difficulties.
- Individual Program: 12 sessions, each lasting 45 minutes.
- Workbook: designed for use with the Individual program but can be used separately. The Workbook contains all of the Skills and Concepts, exercises, and homework assignments used in The Anger Control Individual Program.
